Uncle Sam at War with Spain
This board game, which features drawings of famous ships from the U.S. Naval fleet and the Spanish Armada, challenges players to capture the “enemy” in the ongoing War of 1898. Showcasing architectural landmarks, the game was advertised as displaying pictures “taken from correct photographs” and claimed to be “the most instructive” game on the market.
Underneath the title, the box cover reads, “Let the Americans show what they would have done had they been on the Spanish War Vessels.” It therefore implies that the Spanish defeat was the result of individual failings.
